To tackle these challenges, the Foundation synthesized its goal for COVID relief in the following statement:
“To direct the support towards the most vulnerable population segments in the quickest possible time.”
This statement has guided us toward taking quick decisions and has helped us stay focused during these unpredictable times. To combat the consequences of the pandemic, we worked relentlessly to direct support toward the most vulnerable population including healthcare workers, security personnel, sanitation workers, migrant workers, farmers, the LGBTQ+ community, and many more.
Our COVID relief work continues through 582 COVID Relief Projects across 17 states in the country (as of 31 March 2022). With successive infection waves, the Foundation’s focus has shifted to supporting hospitals with critical medical infrastructure, including oxygen cylinders, concentrators, beds, cardiac monitors, and other supplies. We have also ramped up our training programs to upskill healthcare professionals and frontline workers.

At Tech Mahindra Foundation, we anticipated the severe issues that the COVID-19 pandemic would bring, not only to those affected by the disease, but to those facing social and financial hardship. That is why we established our COVID Relief Program, which quickly directed support to the most vulnerable populations. The first two weeks of the pandemic-led lockdown made our nation’s social disparities more evident as people from vulnerable communities suffered the harshest effects of hunger and lack of access to personal protective gear. This devastation directed us to identify five crucial challenges in strategizing an effective and sustainable relief program:
- Foods security and immediate relief.
- Urgent need for allied healthcare professionals.
- Frontline workers were not trained to deal with all possible situations in caregiving.
- Schools and colleges were shut down, limiting educational opportunities
- Side effects of 100% online teaching-learning such as increased stress, anxiety, and depression, as well as increased reports of child abuse.
